Fire Damage and Painting Restoration

Sometimes the unthinkable happens, as with this oil portrait, "Newsboy", by American artist John Faunce Leavitt (1905-1974). 25 percent of this painting on canvas panel, was completely burned away.

At Fogg Art Restoration we can correct this kind of damage and often work with insurance companies.

First the painting needed to be cleaned and removed from the panel.

The painting and compatible cotton duct were marouflaged to a stabile substrate.

A drawing was created.

The in-painting is then executed.

The signature had to be researched and approved before adding it to the lower right corner.

Lastly the painting was properly varnished and a new frame with a plaque was crafted.
